Articles

In addition to the beautiful article in Southern Living’s August issue (which I pitched and for which I assisted at the photo shoot), on the private North Carolina gardens of  my friends, Frances and Ed Mayes (Under the Tuscan Sun), I was involved with a couple of others this year. Here’s the link to the article about Frances’ and Ed’s gardens: SouthernLiving.com/garden/frances-mayes-garden-tour-north-carolina

In the summer issue of The Designer, prepared by the Association of Landscape Designers and my friend, Katie Elzer-Peters, we were asked to reflect on our trip to Mexico last winter. And, finally, I styled a garden for Southern Living’s October 2018 issue, located in Walland, Tennessee (Blackberry Farm), which was photographed by the talented Helen Norman and Nate Smith. The link is here:  SouthernLiving.com/fall/mountain-cabin-fall-color-garden

Books

There are so many good ones out there right now! Here are three, among many, I recommend:

Women in Sunlight by Frances Mayes—her latest novel.

The Gardens of Bunny Mellon, photos by Roger Foley; words by Linda Jane Holden. Roger Foley, who lives locally (we are lucky to have him here), is an award-winning garden photographer. Fortunately, for me, he did the photos on my website. Now you know why they are so good!!

The Monarch: Saving Our Most-Loved Butterfly, by Kylie Baumle. I first met Kylie when she came to tour my garden in 2017. We’ve since become good friends. We just missed each other this year, when we were both in Mexico City. Kylie is passionate about monarchs.

Coming up in 2019…

I was invited by Magnolia Plantation and Gardens to design a small garden, with a Southern, Lowcountry theme, to represent Magnolia at the U.S. Botanic Garden. The garden is slated to be installed next spring and should be available for viewing through the summer and into fall. Come around and have a look!
